Here's hoping we lose four straight in Boston. :)

As I watch the Blue Jays fall to the hated New York Yankees this afternoon, I have mixed feelings about the upcoming week. While I would love for the Jays to play well at Fenway, I tire of seeing the Yankees in the postseason. I understand that when the Yanks make the playoffs, it is fantastic for baseball as ratings and revenues will be higher than if they didn't qualify. But this 2005 Yankees team is not deserving of a playoff spot, in my mind, as their starting pitching has been mostly quite bad and their overall defense is not great (and certainly not championship calibre). However, they win because of a powerful offense and a superb one-two punch in Tom Gordon and Mariano Rivera. I would just rather see the Red Sox attempt to defend their title against the likes of Chicago, Cleveland and Anaheim (I won't call them the Los Angeles Angels). Given what the TV coverage has been, Tim McCarver would likely be covering Yankees postseason broadcasts. In that case, the thought of McCarver droning on about the greatness of these New York Yankees (hey, did we just get a run off Rivera? This bodes well for the 2006 Jays.) makes me sick. If this statement confuses most readers, you'll have to ask my brother Darren just how far the depth of my disgust for Tim McCarver, baseball colour commentator, goes. :)

Anyway, the one positive coming from today will be the fact that Red Sox are well on the way to victory, ensuring the Yanks and Boston will be tied at 91-64 with a week to go. The 4 game series in Boston will be fun to watch for me in any case, since any Blue Jays victories give us a better record (a .500 or better finish is really unlikely now) and Red Sox victories make it harder on the Yankees to make the playoffs. However, a glance at the Yankees schedule shows 4 games with the hapless Orioles, so it appears to be advantage-New York going into their final series of the season at Fenway. This is going to be a really exciting finish to the season, now that I think about it. Now I know I'll be watching the awesome Blue Jays Home Hardware out-of-town scoreboards this weekend as I attend the final 3 games at Rogers Centre against the hopeless Kansas City Royals. :) Play ball, eh! :)

Revenge of the Jeff

Here's my introductory post to my first-ever blog!

I've wanted to try creating a blog for a while now, in order to see just how badly my writing has atrophied, and to rant about things I find interesting. It should be obvious by the blog title that one of those 'things' is Star Wars, but I don't think that in-depth analysis of obscure details of the SW movies will dominate the topics posted here. Certainly I will reference Star Wars frequently, but I really wanted to ramble on in writing about the SW universe, I'd create one of those Star Wars blogs and have irritating unintelligent teenagers argue about my opinions there. :)

Since baseball and music are huge parts of my life, I expect that those topics will dominate the subject matter of this blog. So if anybody actually ever reads these words, they'll know to expect rants on the Blue Jays and the variety of rock concerts I go to.

Well, that's all I really wanted to say. My procrastinating nature will probably prevent frequent posting, but we'll see. Snoogans!
